Kelcy Warren's Biography

Early Life and Education

Kelcy Lee Warren was born on November 5, 1955, in Gladewater, Texas, and grew up in White Oak, Texas. He is the youngest of four sons of Hugh Brinson Warren and Bertie Lee Kirby. His father worked as a field hand for Sun Pipeline, a company now owned by Warren. Warren attended White Oak High School and later received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 19781.

Career Beginnings

Warren began his career working for the Lone Star Gas Company and then moved to Endevco, where he worked from 1981 to 1992. He served as executive vice-president of Cornerstone Natural Gas from 1989 to 1990, and as president and CEO from 1993 to 19961.

Rise in the Energy Industry

In 1996, Warren co-founded Energy Transfer Partners, which started as a small intrastate natural gas pipeline operator and has grown into one of the largest and most diversified publicly traded energy companies in the industry2. He has been the co-chairman and co-CEO of Energy Transfer Partners since 2007 and serves as chairman of the general partner of Energy Transfer Equity1.
